Thousands of letters released today as LETTER TO AN UNKNOWN SOLDIER lifts off

Today we are delighted to unveil more than 3,000 letters submitted so far as part of LETTER TO AN UNKNOWN SOLDIER. We are thrilled by the public response to the invitation to create a new kind of war memorial made entirely of words.

Hundreds of letters are flooding in each day from schools, community groups and individuals from all across the UK and beyond.  Contributors aged 4 – 89, include grandmothers and Gurkha trainees, midwives and musicians, students, teachers, servicemen and women, politicians and prisoners, as well as hundreds of school children of all ages.

The 3,000 letters received so far are published for the first time today, alongside those written by 50 established writers including A.L Kennedy, Sheila Hancock, Andy McNab, Caryl Churchill and Alan Hollinghurst.
