spectra by Ryoji Ikeda, 2014

17 October 2014

British Library, 6.30 – 8pm, Thursday 4 December 2014

As part of LIGHTS OUT, for seven nights in August, London’s night sky was punctuated by a sublime tower of light.  Created by Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda, spectra first appeared at dusk on 4 August marking the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. Join Artangel to hear Ikeda in conversation with acclaimed London-based artist Christian Marclay – a fellow explorer in the landscape where sight and sound converge.

Book your tickets here.

The event is organised by Artangel in partnership with the British Library.

Click here to see a selection of spectra images taken from various viewpoints around the city and at the source in Victoria Tower Gardens and click here to see 7 nights, 7 photographers – a different photographer for each night of spectra responding to the work.

Call for submission

Artangel and filmmaker Sam Blair are making a documentary about spectra in London and need your help. Well over 50,000 people visited Victoria Tower Gardens where the work was installed, but many more would have seen the lights from their homes, a night out, their places of work. If you were one of these people, you can complete this form to contribute.
