POPPIES: WEEPING WINDOW OPENS AT HULL MARITIME MUSEUM

24 March 2017

Artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper today unveiled the sculpture Poppies: Weeping Window at Hull Maritime Museum. The public will be able to view the sculpture from tomorrow, Saturday 25 March. This is the first location that Poppies: Weeping Window will be seen at in 2017.

Hull Maritime Museum is home to the Fishermen’s Memorial Books, which include the names of all lost fishermen from Hull, including those who died during the First World War. The majority of Hull’s fishing fleet was requisitioned for minesweeping during the war, and many fishermen volunteered to man the vessels. The location of Poppies: Weeping Window is a poignant reminder of the many lives lost at sea during the First World War, and of the sacrifices made by port towns around the UK.

The sculpture is presented as part of Hull 2017 (2017 UK Capital of Culture).
