Produced by Live Music Now Scotland as a result of 14-18 NOW commission, If it wasn’t for their wellies, the Live Music Now performers Geoffrey Tanti and Laura Margaret Smith collected memories from care home residents and lunch club users, which then inspired a composition by John Maxwell Geddes, A Castle Mills Suite.
The composition is about families in communities that were associated with the North British Rubber Company, which supplied the British Army with rubber boots and fire hoses during the First World War. The composition was performed by two groups on a nursing homes tour.
