From today you can view 14-18 NOW’s online gallery of all the 1914 Day by Day Cartoons. With work by Steve Bell (The Guardian), Peter Brookes (The Times), John McCrea & Ferg Handley (Marvel/Lucasfilm & Marvel/Commando) and more.
Alongside this, BBC Radio 4, 1914 Day by Day will be counting down the centenary of the last days of peace with Professor Margaret MacMillan (who also wrote our essay Artists and War) at 16.55 each day until 4 August.
Each week, two cartoonists react to the events of one hundred years ago through the prism of what we now know. Looking not just at the war, but at the wider implications the war had on society. From the struggling plight of the suffragette and the way that the war changed women’s roles on the home front, to the political and economical ramifications of this all-encompassing conflict.
