Today we announce that New York based artist Tauba Auerbach will “dazzle” an iconic New York fireboat in homage to painters and dazzle technology behind the camouflaged ships that crossed the Atlantic during the First World War.

Flow Separation will see the Fireboat John J. Harvey painted with optically vibrating designs. The dazzled boat will be docked at various locations around the New York Harbour and will make free trips along New York’s waterways for passengers several days a week throughout the summer and early autumn.

Tauba Auerbach is the fifth artist in the series of Dazzle Ship commissions, which has seen artists Ciara Phillips, Peter Blake, Carlos Cruz-Diez and Tobias Rehberger dazzle vessels across the UK.
