SIMON ARMITAGE DISCUSSES HIS NEW BOOK ‘STILL’

IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM

5 JULY, 7PM

Poet Simon Armitage will be in discussion with Alan Wakefield and Nigel Steel, two of IWM’s leading First World War historians chaired by Martha Kearney from BBC Radio’s World at One about his remarkable new book, Still.

Commissioned by 14-18 NOW to write a new series of poems, Armitage visited the Imperial War Museum and was captivated by a collection of aerial and panoramic photographs of battlefields taken during the First World War. Inspired by the landscapes and locations, Armitage’s poems have been superimposed onto the photographs, the words interacting with the haunting, abstract images.

This event will culminate in a performance by Simon Armitage of extracts from Still, accompanied by a selection of the haunting photographs reproduced in the book from the originals in the IWM. He will also read a selection of poems by First World War poets.

This event is free but booking is required – click here for more information and to book your free ticket.
