This morning, artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper officially unveiled Poppies: Wave at Royal Armouries, Fort Nelson. This is the first chance to see Wave on the 2018 Poppies tour.
Fort Nelson provides a striking backdrop to the sculpture, being part of a large ring of forts built to defend the naval base of Portsmouth which, during the First World War, was also home to part of Herbert Kitchener’s volunteer army.
The Poppies Tour offers the public the chance to experience the sculptures for free at venues around the UK. After 24 June, Wave can be seen at IWM North in the autumn, the final tour location before it becomes part of the Imperial War Museums’ permanent collection.
