DAZZLE SHIP SCOTLAND NOW OPEN

14-18 NOW and Edinburgh Art Festival unveil Every Woman by Ciara Phillips. Photo by Ross Attenburgh

A new artwork, Every Woman, by the Turner Prize-nominated Ciara Phillips, has been created to ‘dazzle’ a ship in Leith Docks as part of Edinburgh Art Festival 2016.

The long term resident of Scotland, with an interest in the history of signs and symbols, has put her own unique spin on the astonishing camouflage patterns that adorned battle-ready ships 100 years ago.

Ciara Phillips is the fourth artist to be commissioned to make a dazzle ship design, the first to be shown in Scotland. It was inspired by the team of women who worked under British marine artist Norman Wilkinson, who invented the dazzle technique and this new work celebrates the untold histories of woman during the war.
