The 2014 season of 14-18 NOW launched this morning from a press conference on HMS President.
Jenny Waldman, Director of 14-18 NOW introduced the programme, which is commissioning artists to create new work reflecting on the impact and legacy of the First World War, as part of the UK-wide Centenary commemorations. Jenny was joined by Maria Miller, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Diane Lees from Imperial War Museums, Vikki Heywood, Chairman of 14-18 NOW and Dame Jenny Abramsky and Simon Mellor, who spoke on behalf of principal funders Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England.
Writers Kate Pullinger & Neil Bartlett also introduced LETTER TO AN UNKNOWN SOLDIER, a nationwide participatory project inspired by the Paddington Station statue of a soldier reading a letter. You are invited to write your own letter to him.
