A meeting took place on 10 November between the Germans and Allied representatives in a railway carriage in the forest of Compiegne. The following morning, the Armistice was signed and, after more than four years of fighting, a ceasefire came into effect at 11.00am.
11 November is a familiar date for most. While Armistice Day 1918 was undoubtedly a time for rejoicing, it was one tempered by the huge scale of loss and the fears of an uncertain future. Telling the homecoming stories of those who fight and live in war, 100: UnEarth, a new commission by WildWorks at The Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall, will look at the devastating aftermath of conflict.
Graeae Theatre Company will pay moving tribute to Britain’s wounded war veterans in This Is Not for You. Co-commissioned by Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, it’s a story of veterans’ fight for respect and remembrance.
