Over the past two years, artists such as Sir Peter Blake and Tobias Rehberger have ‘dazzled’ a series of ships for 14-18 NOW, inspired by the spectacular colourful camouflage that disguised more than 2,000 vessels during the First World War. Having thrilled audiences in London and Liverpool, the striking Dazzle Ships project is now travelling to Edinburgh for a new commission by the Turner Prize-nominated artist Ciara Phillips.
For 14-18 NOW, Phillips will be dazzling the MV Fingal, which is berthed at the Prince of Wales Dock in the historic port of Leith. This floating artwork will be on show from 28 May 2016 – the launch is timed to coincide with the centenary of the Battle of Jutland, the largest naval battle of the First World War. You can join in by creating your own ‘dazzle’ design with our free Dazzle It app, available for iPhone and Android.
