14-18 NOW invites expressions of interest to host the poppies sculptures

28 May 2015

14-18 NOW are inviting expressions of interest from across the UK to host the iconic poppy sculptures Wave and Weeping Window in 2015 and 2016.

The two sculptures, originally from the installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red – poppies and original concept created by artist Paul Cummins and installation design by Tom Piper – were seen by around  5 million people at HM Tower of London in autumn 2014.

The new presentations will start this year, and give people across the UK the chance to experience the impact of the ceramic poppy sculptures in a range of locations of particular First World War significance.

The two sculptures together total 7800 poppies. Weeping Window is the cascade of poppies that was seen pouring out of a high window down to the grass below. Wave is a curling swathe of poppies which rose up to create an arch over the entrance to the Tower.

If you are an organisation interested in presenting one of the sculptures in 2015 or 2016, please email poppies@1418now.org.uk for an information pack.

Expressions of interest for presenting the sculptures in 2017 and 2018 will be invited during 2016.

We are very grateful to the Backstage Trust, the Clore Duffield Foundation, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Heritage Lottery Fund for their support of the purchase and presentation of the two sculptures.

Wave and Weeping Window are from the installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red. Poppies and original concept Paul Cummins. Installation design: Tom Piper. By Paul Cummins Ceramics Limited in conjunction with Historic Royal Palaces at HM Tower of London 2014.
